Biography

Bianca Vancea is a Romanian pianist currently in her final year of undergraduate studies at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she studies under the guidance of Professor John Thwaites.

Earlier this year, Bianca performed solo recitals at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-Upon-Avon and St Paul's Church. She has been collaborating with singers and instrumentalists and she has been awarded the Edward Brooks English Song Accompanist Prize, the Edward Brooks Lieder Accompanist Prize, and the Gordon Clinton Prize for English Song Pianist.

Later this year, she will release an album with soprano Maria Willsher, featuring a selection of twentieth-century English songs on the theme of nature. In May 2025, she will premiere a new piano and orchestra piece composed by James Sharif with the Romantic Revival Orchestra at the CBSO Centre.

Bianca was born in 2003 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She demonstrated a love for music from an early age. She started piano lessons at the age of 6 and went to 'Sigismund Toduta' Music College.

In 2021, she moved to the UK for her undergraduate studies in music performance at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. During her time at the conservatoire, she has participated in numerous competitions and has been involved in projects and festivals. Some highlights include being a finalist in the Beryl Chempin Beethoven Prize (2023), performing at the Ulverston International Music Festival (2023 & 2024) and performing in the VoxBox: The Songs of André Caplet (2025).

She has participated in masterclasses with pianists such as Peter Donohoe, Paul Berkowitz, Carole Presland, Martino Tirimo and Pascal Nemirovski. She has been collaborating with composers in order to bring their music to life and has recorded two solo piano works: 'Sophie's Lullaby' by Jason Lee and 'Cerulean Blue' by James Sharif.

A passionate chamber musician, she has been working with singers and instrumentalists, exploring a range of repertoire. She is a member of the Boulanger Piano Trio, who have enjoyed performing in venues across Birmingham, including the Alexandra Theatre and St Hilda’s Church. Bianca has been featured in RBC Lunchtime Recitals as a collaborative pianist and is a joint winner of the John Ireland Prize.
